FDHRD and NCHR convene a symposium on press coverage to human rights' economic and social issues
Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue (FDHRD) and National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) convene a collective symposium entitled 'press coverage to human rights' economic and social issues' held in NCHR head quarter on (30 / 3 / 2006); the speakers are the human rights activist (Abd Allah Khalil) and Al-Wafd newspaper assistant editor - in - chief (Magdy Helmy), while the head is (Nagwa Ibrahim) Al-Gomhoria journalist.
The symposium is based on the participation of human rights activists, journalists and sociology lecturers and it will discuss press's effective role in introducing human rights' economic and social issues in which it is considered the instrument most intimate and important to the public, in addition to the positive role of defending day -to - day citizens' rights in order to open problematic discussions as a primary step to shed light on solving the public problems. On this context, FDHRD issued analytic reports on the overall contexts of Egyptian newspapers in which the reports monitor press role in covering human rights 'economic and social issues through out the method of (context analysis).
On the other hand, FDHRD issued three former reports; 'Complaints Book' works on context analysis to complaints pages in seven Egyptian newspapers through out a whole year, 'Poverty Crimes in Egypt' works on context analysis to accidents pages in 2005. While the third one works on context analysis to caricatures of eight Egyptian newspapers on human rights issues monitored in 9 months.
Finally FDHRD and NCHR will discuss the symposium's results and recommendations with the attendants, in order to shed light on the public's obvious problems, which stand against economic and social development and also a hindrance to the efforts working for the welfare of the Egyptian society.
